Mon Ami Prairie Owner & Designer, Caroline Thibault, was the best vendor at Winnipeg Folk Festival each year with previous clothing line Dancing Bears. Her designs, the quality of her fabric (hemp) and remarkable service to her customers, interested me in coming back each year. She remembered my size, always had new interesting designs and colours that complimented older styles so that you could build and re-build your wardrobe. Caroline brought a vibrant, original enthusiasm to her work and I totally enjoyed my interactions and support she gave every year!!! Wishing her well with her new product and approach!
Inspired by the cold, Mon Ami Prairie is a Winnipeg based apparel line with a focus on ethical fashion. The lines creator & designer, who with more than a decade of experience working on sustainable clothing brand lines is Quebec Born Caroline Genevieve Thibault. Thibault, who grew her first love and previous line Dancing Bears Hemp Company from Salt Spring Island British Columbia, has been making earth friendly clothing for the better part of her life.
“For over fifteen years I designed and fabricated a unisex line of hemp clothing in a year round studio in Fulford Harbour British Columbia. I built a reputation for being a meticulous and innovative artist committed to creating high quality products.”
A colourful fixture in the world renowned Salt Spring Island Saturday Market, Thibaults creations adorned islanders and tourists alike. Dancing Bears Hemp Creations grew beyond Salt Spring Island making appearances at some of North Americas most celebrated craft fairs and festivals, including Comox’s Filberg Festival , The Edmonton Folk Festival, Whistler’s Bizzare Bazaar, Vancouver’s Circle Craft and The Winnipeg Folk Festival.
Enjoying how her west coast green creations and hand dyed clothing shone in the prairie sun at The Winnipeg Folk Festival, Thibault loved it so much she returned 10 more years. Feeling at home under the prairie sky, she settled in permanently to Winnipeg’s Wolseley neighbourhood in 2012.
Recently inspired by the new landscape, and founding in Mon Ami Prairie in 2016, Caroline has been busy developing this new line of fibre art, cozy and eco-friendly recycled pop bottle fleece clothing. Featuring easy to gift fashion accessories, Mon Ami Prairie has quickly risen as a top seller at Tara Davis Studio Boutique in Winnipeg’s Historical Exchange District; see taradavis.ca
